Last week should have been the captains drive ins with the course being finely tuned ahead of the coming season in what is the club’s 125th year, it’s a surreal feeling at the moment. Obviously the golf course pales into total insignificance compared to the global pandemic we are all facing on a daily basis, with no signs of it stopping in the immediate future. I pray all of you and your families come through this period in good health!
The golf course will still be there for all of us to enjoy at the end of this period in our history. It’s a period we will come through and will become stronger for it. The club will have to endure testing times, as will we going forwards. All but 3 greenkeepers having been furloughed on the government 80% backed pay scheme. The remaining 3 of us have also voluntarily reduced our salaries & hours in order to safeguard the future of the club.
I will however, guarantee that when you return to playing golf you will find a golf course for everyone to be proud of. We will certainly be working harder than ever, in a safe and controlled environment ensuring that essential maintenance continues at Goring and Streatley golf club and is not adversely affected by these trying times.
New Tee Markers
When the course re-opens you will find a brand new addition to the tees. We have recently installed some new tee markers, constructed from solid hardwood with a attractive marker plate finished to a high standard. These beautiful markers not only blend with the course but give the added benefit of the hole number, yardage and stroke index.
