Greenkeeping Report May 2019

This month we have been busy keeping on top of the grass. We have been down in numbers recently but you would not have noticed it in the condition of the course, all staff have given extra hours to make sure this was the case.

We welcomed our new member of staff Dominic right at the end of the month. Our main focus other than just keeping on top of the grass this month has been weed killing. I have been tackling the fine turf areas, fairways, around greens and tees, tees and surrounds with the knapsack sprayer and Matt has been out focusing on the areas of rough using the tractor sprayer. Conor has been busy looking after and shaping up our hedges and josh has been trimming up the gorse. Steve, as always has been busy looking after the machines as well as his general green keeping duties.

This month has also seen a massive increase in the wildlife. We have seen roe deer more active especially round the practice ground area. A cuckoo has been heard on the 10th and 6th holes, crossbills were spotted around the top field, hares are living around the 17th and 5th holes and many more birds have been spotted. It’s great to see as we have been trying to improve the environment around the golf course for a few years now by adding in more long grass areas, and by clearing overgrown dead areas.
