Same-sex marriage is legal in the United Kingdom. The legislation to allow same-sex marriage in England and Wales was passed by the Parliament of the United Kingdom in July 2013 and came into force on 13 March 2014, and the first same-sex marriages took place on 29 March 2014.
The law also allows for those couples in a civil partnership the option to convert this to a marriage if they choose. This option came into effect on 10 December 2014. There are two options available to couples - the "standard (one stage) procedure" and the "two stage" procedure. Information is available from The West Berkshire Council Website.
